Dr. Watson, thank you! I knew you would address this subject. I was so appalled when I read the article on the Swiss AI Jesus and felt a sense of urgency to preach on this at some point.

Dr. Watson, this article causes me to think deeply about our ability to participate in the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:3-4) This is something that no machine could ever participate in. I am reminded of the quote of St. Athanasius, “God became man so man could become God”, addressing the Incarnation of Christ. Obviously, he didn’t really mean that we could literally share God’s supreme eternal nature, but that we are capable of being restored to our pre-fallen nature. Humanly created things like AI have their limitations. There is a spiritual kindred between individuals who are indwellt with the Holy Spirit. This is another reason that I can’t buy into online Eucharist either.

I recently searched for an article on theological objections to AI. In the final paragraph the reader was informed that the article was the product of a chatbot, an AI construct. Even the picture of the author was an AI generated. Thus, the question of one's ability to distinguish.

Dr. Watson, your comments that "AI Thomas Edison is not Thomas Edison" is absolutely correct. You also rightly summarize the judgment-laden work of historians who seek to represent the past with rigor and integrity.

Now, that we have been reminded of what is wrong with AI, perhaps what is right with-it can be looked at. Additionally, AI can look at the objections and improve the compilation of online information. (Please keep the objections coming.) As to the inner life/motivations MMPI has done increasingly well in expanding our understandings of the self. The infancy of the present-day output of these information systems will seem trivial in the view of latter-day outcome. Clearly the outcome of systems is better that of individuals.
