Like Job, all of the victims need a person of Faith to come alongside of them in order to be : First: Present and Second : to listen to their entire story regarding the immediate crisis and to be willing to listen to their stories of the “disasters” that they were dealing with prior to the recent disaster…after all that listening, the Person of Faith should ask if they can pray. If yes, then pray. If not, maintain presence & listening. Blessings
Thank you Dr. Watson for reminding us that the ways of God are often more complex than our human minds can understand. This is why we are to place our complete trust in God, and walk by faith and not by sight.
Thank you for reminding all of us that lament is the proper Christian response to these sort of events. At this point, and for quite some time to come, that alone is the only response required.
Such a sweet post. In my 50 years of following Christ, I have often felt like I must have all the answers to every question, especially this. How many stupid, thoughtless things I, in my arrogance and self-reliance, have said. Breaks my heart and now just want to be humble and admit, how can I truly know or understand an infinite Creator.
I wrote in my Bible margin in Lamentation 3 the reference to 1 John 1:5 so I can always remember that no matter what happens Jesus showed me the He is good, He is light, and in Him is no darkness. It is all too easy, I know, during dark times, to forget this. But He says He never changes. I am trying very hard to think about Him always as good, so even when these things happen, somehow I know He doing great and good things. I believe this. He has shown Himself faithful over and over.
My heart grieves for all these families as it does each time I pray for all the families devastated by persecution, famine and natural disasters everywhere in the world.
But I know He is light and in Him is no darkness. All He does, whether it be mercy and compassion or justice and vengeance, His knowledge of everything is perfect and without human arrogance or pride or sinfulness. And He is balance, the plumline.
My heart and mind can barely comprehend His ever present, all-powerful, and all knowing presence, but in these times and these events I know He is good. When I have seen Jesus, I have seen the Father and I know, by looking at Jesus, He is beautiful and perfect and the author and finisher of our faith.
The only word I can give to any is how He has seen me through over and over again. Some bad things were of my own bad choices, others maybe not, but He has been faithful, even when I didn't see or understand it at the time.
I believe with all my heart He desires none perish and is constantly calling us.
I respect the quiet and calm demeanor you demonstrate David in person or in writing. Thank you so much for letting us have a good word to ponder and this format, allowing us to speak to you.
In reading Job’s response to Bildad 9:22-24 “ It is all one; therefore I say,
He destroys the guiltless and the wicked. mocking the innocent. He covers the face of the judges. If it is not He, then who is it? The indiscriminate loss of all comes with the destruction. For Job how can it be otherwise? For us ?
