Monday Devotional: You Must Become Like a Child To Enter the Kingdom (Mark 10:13-16)
God's ways are not our ways.
People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them (Mark 10:13-16).
Christian discipleship is a long process of re-learning how to live. We humans are sinful creatures, and it takes little effort for us to adopt sinful attitudes and practices. Jesus taught us a better way, though, one that cuts against the grain of what seems “reasonable” or “obvious” in this rebellious world. God’s kingdom is different than our kingdoms. The vision of the good life in God’s kingdom may seem strange to us, but that is because we are so accustomed to a “normal” that is out of sync with the will of God.
